I don’t think I’ve said this on the blog yet, but Makunouchi Deluxe is my favorite series that we work on. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed at how not many people seem to be reading it, or if they’re reading it then we don’t hear from them. Fortunately for both of you who do follow the series, I like it so much that there’s no way I’d stop working on it. We’ve already begun work on volume 3 and I have a lot more fun translating it than almost anything else I work on. It’s a series that really stands on the strength of its concluding chapters and I’m anxious to show everyone why I liked it so much in the first place.
Also, I really hate it when this has to happen, but we’ve released an update to volume 1 to address a mistranslation in chapter 5 (page 104). What I had assumed was a proper name was actually in reference to a particular Buddhist concept, the “Eight Legions”. We’ve updated the volume 1 collection on the site, but you can grab the individual page here to replace it if you so choose. It doesn’t mess up the plot but it was a missed opportunity for some foreshadowing, which I’m kicking myself for missing. Oh well.

When you were checking your calendar today, you may have noticed that exactly one year ago, Soba-scans put out its first release, among which was the first three chapters of Ring x Mama. We’ve decided to celebrate this occasion by releasing the long-awaited first chapter of Volume 3! This is translated from our own scans, so the quality is much higher than what’s been floating around the internet.

Lots of action on the ring in this volume, especially in the first few chapters. Now that we’ve gotten to know all the characters, this volume starts to ramp up the character drama. Tempers will flare, fair maidens will be bedded, and tears will be shed!
We intend to keep up a fairly regular pace now that we’re releasing the series again, but please understand that things are pretty busy for everyone on the team. At the time of writing we’re in the midst of the post-Comiket frenzy, and work and other real-life stuff have been draining our spare time. I’d like to think that our work is steadily improving in quality since we started a year ago, but a series of this stature and complexity requires time to properly translate and edit. Anyway, we hope you’ve enjoyed our year of releases and we hope you stick around for another!

I think “美少女戦士”, “bishoujo senshi” or “beautiful warrior” was how Sailor Moon referred to herself, but perhaps it applies to any superheroine. Or maybe it’s just the most appropriate thing to say when you’re wearing a bedsheet.
